Moving to Britain is published by Welcome Group Ltd. We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, magnifier, voice control or keyboard only, and people for whom English is a second language.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. In practice that means:
- plain English, short sentences and headings that describe what follows
- text that can be resized up to 200% without loss of content
- colour contrast that meets AA standards for body text
- meaningful link text and alternative text for images that carry information
- forms and tools that can be used with a keyboard
- pages that reflow on a phone without sideways scrolling
Where we know we fall short
- We have not yet had the site independently audited against WCAG 2.2. Until we have, we cannot claim full compliance.
- Directory listings are built from public register data, which sometimes contains inconsistent capitalisation or abbreviations that screen readers may read awkwardly.
- Some interactive tools, such as the absence calculator and the route finder, have not yet been fully tested with screen readers.
We are working on these and will update this statement as we fix them.
